About Yankasa Association
Our Story, Our Values, Our Impact
Who We Are
Yankasa Association of USA, Inc. is a vibrant not-for-profit organization and community mosque headquartered at 1707 Townsend Avenue in the Bronx, New York City. Founded to serve the Ghanaian and broader American Muslim community, we are a welcoming center for worship, education, cultural celebration, and mutual support.
Our mission is to cultivate a thriving, empowered community rooted in Islamic values and Ghanaian cultural heritage. We are committed to eliminating prejudice and discrimination, defending human and civil rights, and building bridges across cultures — all while nurturing the next generation of community leaders.
Our Core Values & Guiding Principles
Faith: We are grounded in Islamic principles of compassion, justice, and service to humanity.
Community: We believe in the power of collective action and mutual support to uplift every member.
Education: We invest in knowledge — from Qur'anic studies to digital literacy — as the foundation of empowerment.
Cultural Heritage: We celebrate and preserve Ghanaian cultural traditions while embracing the diversity of our American home.
Service: We are called to serve — our members, our neighbors, and communities in need around the world.
Youth Empowerment: We are committed to integrating our youth within the organization to ensure the continuity of our vision for generations to come.
Community Impact
Yankasa Association has a proud track record of community service. We organized clothing and cash drives to assist Haitians following the devastating 2010 earthquake and contributed 100% of proceeds collected during Friday prayers to the American Red Cross in support of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in 2012. We continue to mobilize resources whenever communities are in need.
Our Leadership
Yankasa Association has been shaped by dedicated leaders who serve our community with distinction.
Ibrahim Abdulai Masiga
President Ibrahim Abdulai Masiga has led Yankasa Association since 2021, bringing renewed energy and vision to the organization. Under his leadership, the Association has been actively involved in transformative community initiatives, including the training of medical doctors and expanding programs that empower members across the Ghanaian and broader American Muslim community in the Bronx.
Leadership Team
Mohammed Beshir Kabore
Mohammed Beshir Kabore balances a 40-hour workweek with extensive community service as an organizer and distributor for the Mott Haven Fridge Network.
